Renowned for his quest to preserve and offer the largest selection of heirloom seeds around the world, Gettle has collected seeds from across the U.S. and traveled as far as Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Guatemala and Belize to find varieties of vegetables, herbs and flowers that have been passed down from generation to generation. With mass production of seeds in today’s market, the original heirloom seeds have been more difficult to acquire. He continues to discover and preserve varieties of seeds that may have otherwise been lost or become “extinct”. Gettle is the founder of Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and continues to find better, safer food supplies and fight gene-altered “Frankenfoods”. His goal is to provide education and free seeds to many of the world’s poorest countries as well as to school gardens and educational projects in the US.
